Sergio Ramos Linked With Switch To Old Trafford, Do United Need Him?

Jose Mourinho is reportedly weighing up a move for Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos.

The new United boss has previously worked with the Spaniard whilst at the helm at Real and could be set to make an offer for Ramos in the region of forty million pounds.

Ramos was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford last year but instead opted to remain at the Bernabeu and signed a new five year contract.

Real are said to be desperate to keep hold of Ramos but would be willing to let their star defender go should they receive an astronomical bid for the player.

It is no secret that Mourinho tried to strengthen his back four over the summer. Having only added Eric Bailly to his squad the Portuguese was said to have wanted to bring in an established world class centre half that could have slotted straight into his first team.

For what United have in numbers at the back they lack more so in true genuine quality and whilst Ramos is undoubtedly a top defender he is however no longer what United need at the moment and a move for him won’t make sense, at least to me.

Now at the age of 30, Ramos is heading towards the latter stages of his footballing career. No longer is he at the peak of his powers nor has he got many years left to play at the highest level, he is on the decline and for United to buy Ramos now would be in my opinion, a waste of money.

Having already turned down the club last summer, the Spaniard made it clear he wanted to remain at Real and did not want to join United. The club would be paying an astronomical fee for a player who is not only on the decline but a player who hand on heart we all know has no real interest in playing for Manchester United.

For me, a deal for Ramos would make little if any sense for Manchester United and one which Mourinho should stay well away from.
