Paulinho heads to China

Brazilian midfielder Paulinho has signed with Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande.

According to reports, the deal is for around £9.9 million, and will give Paulinho a chance to work with Luiz Felipe Scolari, his former national team coach.

Paulinho came to White Hart Lane in 2013 for a then-club record of £17 million, made possible by the sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid earlier in the year.

Coming off a fantastic run at the Confederations Cup, the signing was met with much optimism by Spurs fans, but Paulinho failed to impress in his two years in London. He was eventually displaced from the starting XI by the likes of Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb.

After appearing in 30 Premier League games during the 2013-14 season, that number was cut in half this year, and he was unable to account for any league goals.

Prior to Tottenham, the man once known as the “Brazilian Frank Lampard” made a name for himself in Brazil, spending three years with Corinthians and making almost 100 appearances for the club.
