Edin Dzeko arrives in Rome prior to move

Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko arrived in Italy to sign a contract with his new team, Roma last week.

The move will cost Roma £14 million, less than half of the £32 million Manchester City paid for the Bosnian striker in 2011.

Dzeko had been named one of Roma’s top targets this summer, and Manchester City’s manager Manuel Pellegrini admitted earlier in the team’s summer tour that Dzeko could depart the club.

Even though he had a high price tag when leaving Wolfsburg for Manchester in 2011, Dzeko struggled to make a consistent impact in England, only scoring over 20 goals once in his five seasons, and only scoring 6 in 31 appearances this past season.

However, he did play an instrumental role in both of City’s title winning campaigns so as inconsistent as he was, he did contribute to City’s cause during his stay at the Etihad.

Dzeko will look to fill the void left by Roma’s Seydou Doumbia leaving on loan to CSKA Moscow, and can provide some relief to 38-year-old Francesco Totti up front.
